What is a good typing speed?+
The average typing speed is about 40 words per minute. 60–70 WPM is considered fast, professional typists reach 80–100 WPM, and the top competitive typists exceed 120 WPM.
How is WPM calculated?+
Words per minute uses the standard convention that one word equals five characters. WPM = (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. Accuracy is measured separately as the share of characters typed correctly.
